Professional Diploma Programme

In

Scenar Therapy

The Irish College of Scenar (ICS)

The Irish College of Scenar (ICS) teaches a Diploma course in Scenar Therapy under contract to the Scenar Practitioner’s Society of Ireland (SPSI).  The ICS is the only Scenar College in Ireland.

It is the objective of the ICS to train prospective Scenar therapists to the highest national and international standards available in order to:

Ensure that the client is receiving professional treatment from a qualified therapist.

To meet all our obligations at a National and European level in regard to the quality of this Diploma Programme.

In order to meet these objectives the ICS has taken several initiatives, namely:

To seek accreditation for this Diploma Programme from the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC),after this becomes available from HETAC. This is one of the national awarding authorities in Ireland.

In parallel with this accreditation process, to ensure that this Diploma programme is compliant and recognised within the Bologna Process, a European Accord initiated in 1999.

The Scenar Practitioners Society of Ireland (SPSI)

The SPSI was created in 2000 by John Garvey to regulate Scenar in Ireland and to ensure the highest standards of practice and ethics to benefit the public, the clients and Scenar- therapists. Scenar was created about 25 years ago in Russia and has been developing ever since then. The SPSI is the first National Scenar organisation to be founded outside of Russia. The SPSI is the National Scenar "Umbrella" organisation and the regulatory authority for Ireland and has its own Constitution and Code of Ethics as well as its own Accreditation and Standards Sub-Committee. The SPSI is open to all, whether from medical, complementary/alternative or Holistic backgrounds.

John Garvey, ICS founder Director

John has been a professional Holistic Healthcare Practitioner since qualifying in 1982. He is a registered Consultant, Teacher and Practitioner with the Scenar Practitioners Society of Ireland (RSPSI-C) having studied in Russia, the UK, Switzerland, Holland and Bulgaria; and the Shiatsu Society of Ireland (RPSSI-T). He is a graduate of the Russian School of Scenar and Scenar Training Centre (UK). John is a qualified Trainer through the National University of Ireland (NUI) Maynooth.

Dan Brankin, ICS Training Coordinator

Dan has been involved in complementary therapy for over twenty years. He is a registered Master Practitioner (RSPSI-M) and Assistant Teacher (RSPSI-at) with the Scenar Practitioners Society of Ireland, having studied in Ireland, the UK, Switzerland and Bulgaria. He is a registered Hypnotherapist and professional Life Coach and NLP Master Practitioner. Dan is a qualified Trainer through the National University of Ireland (NUI) Maynooth.

Scenar – What is it?

The Scenar (Self Controlled Energo Neuro Adaptive Regulator) pioneering device was invented by Russian scientists for use in the Space Programme by cosmonauts. Scenar therapy is a holistic form of treatment which stimulates the nervous system and teaches it to heal itself. Electrical impulses, the parameters of which are similar to endogenous nerve impulses, are transmitted through the skin to the nervous system. Fast-reacting informational biofeedback means that each impulse is different from the previous one and helps to speed up healing. Scenar action influences the adaptive processes of the organism and helps harmonize them. In response to Scenar impulses the Nervous System releases neuropeptides, which are broken down into many compounds, which are themselves bio-active. As a result, and for other reasons too technical to name here, balance (homeostasis is gradually and gently restored.

What can be treated?

Scenar is a recognized medical modality for the treatment of pain, whether acute or chronic. It has also proven beneficial in treating many ailments of either a physical, emotional, nervous, psychological or mental nature including:

Nervous system disorders

Immune and hormonal system disorders

Muscular and skeletal problems

Respiratory system problems

Cardio vascular disorders

Digestive system problems

Genito-urinary problems

Statutory Recognition and Quality Standards

The Bologna Process

The Bologna Process was initiated in 1999 and now involves 45 countries. (See Appendix 1 for a list of countries). Its objective is to establish a European Higher Education Area (EHEA) by 2010. All states within the EHEA will have a National Framework of Qualifications to include a Quality Assurance (QA) system building on an agreed set of standards, procedures and guidelines for the EHEA and recognising decisions made by other national QA systems. A common set of general standards and guidelines for QA in the EHEA was adopted by the Ministers for Education from the 45 participating countries in Bergen, Norway in May 2005. The adoption of this regulation facilitated the establishment of a coherent European system of QA, the European Network for Quality Assurance, (ENQA) in higher education.

This has now become known as the ‘Bologna Framework’, and its rationale is to provide a mechanism to relate National Frameworks to each other so as to enable:

International transparency so that qualifications can be easily read and compared across borders.

International Recognition of qualifications through a common understanding of outcomes for the purpose of employment and access to continuing education

International mobility of learners and graduates through the recognition of their prior learning and qualifications gained.

The Bologna Framework was put into an international context at a conference in Riga in January of 2007. This conference addressed the challenge of recognition of prior learning between the EHEA countries and other international educational systems, most notably USA; Canada; Australia and New Zealand. The objective now is to achieve convergence between these bodies to establish a truly global framework of recognition.

Progress to Date

ICS has started the process of seeking accreditation within the above frameworks. It will take time but the benefits for Scenar Therapy are that it will become an internationally recognised modality within the field of complementary medicine. Furthermore, qualified Scenar Therapists will have a Professional Diploma recognised in 45 countries.

The Irish College of Scenar has made the commitment that this current Diploma programme will be fully accredited within the Bologna Framework before its conclusion.

By aligning itself with the above processes and frameworks at a National and International level, the ICS is ensuring that its students, upon graduation, will have an internationally recognised qualification that meets the highest Quality Assurance standards.

But more importantly, people coming for Scenar Therapy can have the confidence of knowing that they are being treated by a fully qualified professional therapist who has undergone an internationally approved training programme before being allowed to work with members of the public.

Course Programme 2008 – 2010

The current Diploma programme is being offered as a modular programme over two years, from September 2008 until June 2010. There are 9 modules (comprising a Foundation Module followed by Modules 1-8) of two days duration approximately every 3 months. These are usually held on weekends.

The Diploma is broken down into three major components:

1. 18 days (minimum) classroom study 144 hours

2. Home study in between modules 160 hours which is

     continuously assessed through written assignments.

3. Case studies with treatment plans, 50 clients 200 hours

The programme is one of continuous assessment. The student cannot move onto the next module until having satisfied all the requirements of the previous module.

N.B. The detail of the programme may be refined as ICS aligns itself within the Bologna Framework.

After completion of the Diploma Programme there is a further 2 years of Continuous Professional Development (CPD), which must be completed.

First and Second year CPD requirements:

Documented quality Scenar study with an RSPSI-T  Scenar teacher. 2 Day training course. 50 CPD points

Question: give a detailed explanation of your understanding of Adaptive Reaction. (This question may change from year to year)  25 CPD points

.Total 100 CPD points per year
